BioPesticide Development (Entomopathogenic Fungi)

Several species of fungi have the ability to kill insect and mite pests. I have been involved with numerous projects that focus on species in the Beauveria and Metarhizium genera. Several of the fungal isolates used in our research trials originate from VT soils. I have a particular interest in the development of granular formulations.

  • A tick infected with a strain of Metarhizium fungus.

  • A granular formulation of Beauveria bassiana in a potted plant for the management of the pupating soil stage of western flower thrips. (Frankliniella occidentalis).

  • A granular formulation of a fungus-based microbial biopesticide.
